Smart AV Integration Enhances IRAS with Merlaud and Fohhn Speakers

facilitate announcements

Responsible for collecting taxes from its citizens and businesses, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) is also prone to receiving the odd invoice. Control Logic Systems, an independent AV distributor and now a part of the Ideal Systems SEA, was appointed to install a paging and evacuation system into the multi-storey Revenues House by CPG Facilities Management Pte Ltd and IRAS. Located opposite Newton Station, the digital upgrade has created a spacious Fire Command Centre on account of 12 equipment racks being reduced to five.

Fohhn LF-220 column speakers

Making use of the pre-existing cabling infrastructure, 3,330 Merlaud ceiling speakers in addition to smaller quantities of box speakers and horns are powered by 72 AMN250 1/4-rack size Class-D amplifiers. Another 22 AMN250s have been added for redundancy. Speaker management control has been applied in the form of MANX88 processors connected to a network switch, whose parameters can be accessed via the Merlaud software on an HP touchscreen. Programmed announcements can be played over the 72-zone network courtesy of the LNM18 digital message player, while a DMH gooseneck microphone with built-in preamplifier, digital chime, LCD and zone selectors allows a human touch. A Tach CD/Tuner/USB/SD card player provides zoned music should it be desired.

The main foyer’s 20m ceiling height led to a ceiling speaker solution being abandoned in favour of two Fohhn LF-220 column speakers. A third model has been placed in the rear foyer. The selfpowered, free-standing models are networked in the same manner as the Merlaud 100V line speakers. Placed on specially designed Fohhn stands, the unobtrusive 2.25m high aluminium cabinets comprise 16 4-inch speakers and 16 Class-D amplifiers programmed to adapt to digitally steer their beams within the lobby’s unique architectural characteristics. The result ensures that taxpayers entering Revenues House are spared audio reverb from the marble floors, walls and glazing.
